Just made an Instagram account: @pmstarr
A tiny step forward with this site since it’s Fountain Pen Day:
Still conflicted about “social” media, comments, and even just putting my face forward when it comes to taking pleasure in writing. Because I know all too well those things can add a lot, but all too often take a lot of the pleasure right OUT of joyful, therapeutic, introverted pursuits.
On the other hand, I want to
- follow fountain pen and ink accounts and consume beautiful inky content all in one place
- this is complicated for me, too: it can be intimidating and disheartening FAST to scroll through IG and see super next-level art, collecting and hobby/lifestyle p*rn; a lot of studies have shown that instagram leads to a lot of comparing-oneself-to-others and feeling we’re falling short, leading to depression
- stay caught up on sale announcements and deals and limited editions and such by following all of the retailers (while somehow not feeling depressed and overwhelmed at not having resources to get ALL OF THE THINGS, and not compulsively spending money I don’t really have due to FOMO from being tantalized by all of these FP stores and their shiny adverts)
- enjoy having a visual grid / virtual photo album focusing on images created for PleasureWriting.com
- give people an opportunity to subscribe to me on a free platform they are already using and check in on regularly
I feel like this site isn’t really ready for visitors. I feel like *I* am not ready to be “out there” in this capacity. But those are relatively-baseless fears.
I am ready to take a little tiny step like this. I don’t have to let it distract me. I don’t have to try to “grow my followers” are do anything big right out of the gate. It will be nice just to have an anniversary date of a small step that I can use as a prompt next year, and in years to come, to assess this site’s progress and reflect on what I want to accomplish with it.
