A Notebook for Each Purpose vs ONE Notebook for EVERYTHING

by Aug 22, 2023paper, Philosophy, Problems

I loved seeing this post from DeAnna Rose about how ideally she’d keep all of the things separate in their own task-specific notebooks, but gave up and is now embracing the practical realities of it-all-goes-in-ONE notebook:

A shopping list & rhyming words on the same page inside DeAnna’s dot grid all-purpose notebook. Do I detect some shimmer? Maybe a … Sakura Stardust Gelly Roll pen?

I used to try to keep separate notebooks for things like To Do lists, work things, creative things, etc. But I never would have the right notebook at the right time. So I switched to just putting everything in a single notebook all together. And it amuses me greatly when I end up with things like a shopping list next to a list of words that rhyme with “kill”.

I could ask, but I like wondering: are these kill-word rhymes possibilities for a song? And do those rhymes shimmer, perhaps from a Gelly Roller? And what is written in longhand (it looks like) on the reverse side of this page? Seeeeecrets, I think!

If it is for a song, I like downhill, 2$ bill or cranesbill, pill and (of course) REFILL. This is a fountain pen blog, after all.

What is your philosophy (vs practice) on many-notebooks vs ONE all-purpose notebook? This would make for a great youtube livechat topic of discussion, I think, that could go on for hours or becoming extremely boring in a matter of minutes.
