I definitely was not expecting to find myself anywhere near pens like these anytime soon (if ever). Let alone in bed next to me. TODAY.
The shriek-gasp-scream that came out of me when my wife slowly unveiled the first one of these to me this morning was something. And then the WHAT!?!NO WAY!!! with the second was OMG
I already felt like I had an embarrassment of riches to ink up, gaze at, stroke, blog about and celebrate before this morning, but now … whoah! I feel even more blessed and lucky.
So why did I select these two Montblancs to show off today out of about two dozen recently-acquired fountain pens I’m itching to pay exploratory tribute to here? Maybe because they exemplify all of the beautiful things I spend time telling myself I do not want AT ALL just because I do not think I will ever be able to have them. It’s ironic how holding a my Montblanc Meisterstück 149 in my hands today humbled me, and told me I was wrong. I had to confess I actually *do* want pens like this. VERY MUCH.
I was wrong, and it feels SO GOOD to be wrong like this, and be able to feel and see and touch so many reasons why.
Out of a decadent box generously stuffed with a mind-blowing array of unexpected fountain pen treasures my wife brought home and revealed to me one by one, the Bohème Bleu was the first one I inked up and started writing with.
I’m not going to play with the Diplomat until I get a bottle of super-safe “washable” ink. I considered filling it with Diamine Majestic Blue, but I am afraid it could stain the ink window, and I just don’t want to do that right out of the gate. I have a bottle of Parker Quink that’s *supposed* to be Washable Blue, but I got it off Amazon and frankly I am not sure it’s real; it’s darker than the washable blue Quink cartridges I’ve been using for decades. Maybe they mistakenly sent “permanent” blue-black? The bottle is kind of inscrutable so I’m ordering another super-safe blue ink just to be on the safe side. It’s not that I intend to never put a more decadent ink in the 149, but first I just want to feel it with something totally unproblematic and then decide from there how much I will use the pen and what the ideal ink for it will be.
