As previously mentioned, I *love* the color brown; my desire to have eternal access to luscious brown ink is a big motivator in my fountain pen hobby. So far I haven’t realized that dream, but this morning I feel like I’m on my way with two sample vials of highly recommended brown inks sitting in front of me.
Ordered from Goulet Pens after seeing them reviewed on JetPens as THE BEST brown fountain pen inks.: Pilot Iroshizuku’s Tsukushi (Horsetail Plant) and Yama-guri (Wild Chestnut).
I’m going to try Tsukushi first, relatively certain that if I can only spend $22.40 on a SINGLE bottle of brown ink, I’ll probably get more pleasure out of its warmer color and wetness than the darker, more sophisticated Yama-guri. I can tell just from the way Tsukushi clings to the sides of the sample vial while Yama-guri resists cling, sinking to a dark and shadowy pool at the bottom of its vial that the lighter color is one I’ll probably enjoy more on a daily basis. As rich, timeless and impressive as a blacker-brown sounds, I’ll probably get more joy out of the more versatile and ALIVE-looking brown.
We’ll see … I’m going to use a syringe now to fill a clean, empty (re-used) Parker quink cartridge with the Tsukushi for my Sonnet.
Very grateful for being able to order these samples for only $2.25 from Goulet.
